Qualcomm Unveils Its New VR Headset Design

Qualcomm, an American telecommunication company, has revealed a concept design of its upcoming all-new virtual reality wireless headsets. The headset is said to be 5G enabled Snapdragon XR2 chipset that is designed for virtual reality/ artificial reality devices.

The design that Qualcomm has revealed is a model taken from Goertek. Qualcomm has previously worked with Goertek, an electronics manufacturing company. The new XR2 chipset enabled headset will have the capability to support the 5G network. It is reported that the VR wireless headset will have seven cameras with a picture resolution of 2k instead of 3k or above.

Qualcomm’s previously launched XR1 VR headsets would also be available in the market even after the launch of its upgraded version. The telecommunication company is said to launch the device within the year 2020. But a delay is also likely to be expected because of the Corona Virus plague.

The virtual reality headsets are one of the largest selling devices for the 5G network. As the fastest internet requires the latest and upgraded devices, the XR2 enabled chipset headsets are not only capable of handling that load, but also they are lighter in weight and thinner in size. This is one of the major reasons Qualcomm has been promoting virtual reality headsets to increase their business and market worth. Reports are that the maker of Pokémon Go, Niantic, is also likely to work with the telecommunication company for these headsets. Qualcomm is also working on artificial reality headsets and trying to make a jump with its latest designs.

Qualcomm also has the credit on its account to be the sole promoter of virtual reality and artificial reality headsets. At present, the company holds around 30 headsets on its account that are VR/ AR Snapdragon chipsets enabled in them. The headsets models that have Snapdragon chipsets enabled include Oculus Go, Oculus Quest, Vive Focus, and HoloLens 2.
