Facebook Reveals New VR Headsets Prototype that Looks Like Sunglasses

Facebook, the social media giant, and a vital player to the wireless headsets world has revealed its all-new, concept virtual reality headset. The wondrous point about this device is that it looks more comfortable to wear and use as it comes in the shape of a pair of sunglasses. Its unique shape is an indication that the device will be lightweight and can easily be used without any straps on your head, unlike other VR headsets that look pretty heavy by their shape. The company is already leading the VR headset market with its Oculus headsets.

The new device has display features of 1,200 x 1,600 pixel resolution with a very thin, 9mm, display thickness. Such devices are generally categorized as augmented reality headsets, but Facebook claims that the field of view of their device makes them fall under virtual reality headsets.

The new concept device comes with a technique that the company named “polarization-based optical folding.” This very technique reduces the space between the lens and the actual display unit. This “polarized” technique can control light in both directions, forward and backward within the lens.

For the past few years, many companies have been working on the idea of a combined VR/AR headset. But this struggle has, so far, always ended up in a huge device that is more VR-centric. As for now, it is uncertain to say how this concept wireless headsets will look like when it is finally made and launched.
