Key Features

2.4GHz Wireless and Bluetooth 5.3

The wireless connectivity available in Nova 5X includes two types. You will require the 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity using the USB-C dongle if you intend to game. This is the wireless connectivity that is mostly used in gaming on consoles and PCs.

The second type of wireless connectivity is Bluetooth 5.3. This is mostly useful when it comes to connecting your headphones with your phone, tablet or any device that uses the Bluetooth 5.3 technology.

With the help of the Quick-Switch button, you will be able to switch between the 2.4 GHz wireless and Bluetooth 5.3.

Built for Xbox

Nova 5X is the Xbox variant of the Arctis Nova 5 line of headsets. This headset is compatible with Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. The wireless dongle has an Xbox mode that helps you to connect the headset to compatible Xbox devices.

This is also convenient if you are playing games on different platforms since the headset is compatible with PC, PlayStation, and other compatible devices.

40mm Neodymium Magnetic Drivers

The headset has proprietary 40mm Neodymium Magnetic Drivers. They were designed in a way that makes it possible to get clear highs, accurate mids, and deep bass. Thus, it is possible to get a good balance of sounds for different types of game audio.

It means that you can detect small sounds as well as have good audio quality from large effects. There is an officially claimed frequency range of 20-22,000 Hz and 36-ohm impedance.

100+ Game Audio Presets

Using the Arctis Nova 5 Companion App, it is possible to use over 100 game audio presets. This way, it is possible to change audio settings depending on what type of game you play. In some settings, it is possible to highlight small sounds like footsteps and other sounds.

Thus, you can use the preset and not change EQ settings manually. It is also possible to use different audio settings depending on the type of connection.

Spatial Audio Compatibility

The Nova 5X provides support for spatial audio in systems that support it. Spatial audio helps create sound that comes from specific locations rather than just two left-right locations. It can be used in games where sound direction is significant.

The headset is compatible with Sonar Virtual Surround Sound in the Windows operating system. It also works with Tempest 3D Audio on the PS5 console and Microsoft Spatial Audio on Xbox. Your experience depends on the type of console, game, and audio configuration.

ClearCast 2. X Microphone

The headset contains a fully retractable ClearCast 2 X microphone. It can be retracted into the headset while it is being used for listening to music or watching movies. If you want to communicate with your friends or team members during the game, you can use the microphone by pulling it out.

The microphone is designed to work with 32kHz/16-bit audio and bidirectional noise cancellation. The frequency response of the microphone is 100–10,000 Hz.

Long Battery Life

Battery life is one of the most significant features of this wireless gaming headset. SteelSeries states that the battery life of the Nova 5X can reach 50 hours at 2.4 GHz connection. When using Bluetooth, the battery lasts up to 60 hours. The battery life may depend on the way of use and type of connection.

To charge, USB-C fast charging enables you to return to your gaming. A 15-minute charge gives you up to 6 hours of gameplay as per the stated specifications.

Lightweight Design

Nova 5X weighs about 265 grams or 9.5 ounces. As the weight of the headset becomes lighter, comfort level increases. The design of this headset enables you to use it without any inconvenience because of its lightweight nature.

Comfort is subjective, so fit may vary from one person to another. Besides, it allows for carrying a gaming headset with you wherever you go.

Control On-Headset

The headset comes with controls embedded in the earcup. One can easily control functions like volume, power, microphone mute, pairing, and switching from wired connection to wireless without getting up to adjust any setting in your console or computer.

This feature becomes handy while playing a game in which one needs to change something quickly. Moreover, the Quick-Switch button enables users to easily switch between 2.4GHz and Bluetooth.

Performance and Working

The Nova 5X has a USB-C wireless adapter for its 2.4GHz connectivity. When using the headset on Xbox, one can first configure the wireless adapter for Xbox mode before plugging it into the console.

Once the headset is connected wirelessly, the user gets flexibility to move freely without having to carry an audio cable to and fro between the user and the device. Bluetooth 5.3 provides another means of connectivity which can be used if one wants to use the headset with a compatible phone or other Bluetooth device.

SteelSeries GG and Sonar provide additional audio controls for PC users. ChatMix works on PCs with Windows 10 or later.

You will also have access to game audio presets through the Companion App. This allows you to alter the sound according to the game being played. Thus, the headset remains versatile for gaming and day-to-day activities.

Compatibility

Arctis Nova 5X can be connected to different types of devices.

Examples of these devices are:

• Xbox Series X|S

• Xbox One

• PlayStation 5

• PlayStation 5 Pro

• PlayStation 4

• PlayStation 4 Pro

• PC

• Mac

• Handheld gaming devices

• Mobile gaming devices

• Oculus Quest 2

It will depend on the device whether the way you connect will differ. You can use wireless connectivity via USB-C with compatible devices, and there is also a Bluetooth 5.3 connection as an alternative for certain compatible devices.

Platform restrictions should also be taken into account. Thus, for example, according to SteelSeries, ChatMix is not supported on PlayStation.

Suitable for Whom?

Nova 5X is the best fit for Xbox gamers who require wireless headsets that come with different connection modes. This product will appeal to gamers spending a lot of time playing games and who have higher battery requirements. The fast charge will come in handy if you forget to charge your headset before gaming sessions.

It could also be a good solution if you use several devices. It means that you can play games using 2.4GHz wireless and switch to Bluetooth if your other devices allow this connection. The retractable microphone makes the Nova 5X versatile enough for both gaming and normal listening purposes.

However, you should take into account that you won’t get a feature that your platform does not support. If you are a PlayStation user, you should be aware of the fact that ChatMix is not supported on PlayStation.
